Beauty is often said to be only skin deep, but it is common knowledge that when we look good, we feel food. Looking and feeling your best doesn’t have to be a luxury that you cannot afford. Below we have listed some beauty tips and secrets that can help you look and feel your best without having to break the bank.

Steaming

Cannot afford the steam room at your favorite spa? Don’t worry because you make your own personal steam room in the comfort of your own home. Turn on the shower until it is boiling hot. Do not step into it. Remove your clothing (or stay in a gown or wrapped in a towel- whatever is comfortable for you) and stand close to the shower door. Steaming helps your skin by opening up any clogged pores and getting rid of excess dirt on your face and body. It can also help you treat chronic or persistent sinusitis.

Clean Pillowcases

We may all dread laundry day, but a clean pillowcase goes a long way to give you smooth, flawless skin. In order to prevent acne and breakouts, wash and change your pillowcase at least once a week because they keep sweat, dirt and oil from our faces. If you can afford to do so, get a silk pillowcase. They may be a bit costly but are a good investment, especially if you have type 4C hair as well since it is less tough on your hair. For other hair types, it will keep your hair silkier and shinier.

Wash Your Hands

In 2021, no one really needs to be reminded and shown how to wash their hands because of the coronavirus pandemic. The truth is, we touch a lot of things throughout the day from staircase railings to doorknobs, money and elevator buttons. Your hands can pick up germs and other bacteria from all around us which can spread to your face when you touch it. Bacteria on the skin can result in acne, breakouts and other skin problems. Although it is not as effective as handwashing, you can also use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer or wet wipes.

Use Ice or Toothpaste to Get Rid of Zits

Pimples (or zits) can be rather annoying and often appear at the worst times. When that pimple pops out of nowhere (no pun intended), instead of popping it, grab an ice cube from your freezer and place it directly on your pimple in order to reduce the swelling and redness. A great alternative is using a bit of toothpaste and applying it on the pimple to help reduce the size of the zit, any pain redness and swelling. Leave it to dry and wash your face after about 20 minutes.

Use Clear Nail Polish on Earrings

New piercings or earrings can be fun. They make us feel good about ourselves, boost our mood and our confidence levels. However, most people usually react badly to the metal of earrings against their skin. It can either itch, swell or turn red. Paint a single coat of clear nail polish at the back of your earrings to create a soft barrier between your skin and the earrings. Because it is clear nail polish, this will be hardly noticeable.

Drink Water

We have all heard it a thousand times, water is good for the skin. A lack of water results in dehydration which can result in dry, saggy skin. Dry skin can result in other skin conditions like eczema. Regularly drinking water (6 to 8 glasses should be fine) hydrates your skin from the inside, resulting an outside glow. Drinking water regularly has been known to slow down the aging process and also prevent wrinkles from forming.

Get a Good Night’s Rest

Your skin produces high amounts of collagen when you are asleep. This is essential because it prevents the skin from stretching and sagging and slows down the appearance of wrinkles as well. A good night’s sleep is not only important for your skin but your overall brain’s function as well. It’s a must you get at least 8 hours of sleep to help improve your mental health.  Lack of sleep can also result in dark circles under your eyes. Make sure to get plenty of rest to help your body reduce stress and anxiety which can boost your overall health and prevent worry lines on your face.

DIY Facemasks

Depending on what skin conditions you are struggling with, you can make masks with everyday household items from your kitchen. To help with skin toning and pigmentation, mix together turmeric powder, lemon juice and honey to the consistency of a paste and leave on your face to dry. For soft and smooth skin, add a drop of lavender oil to a mixture of coconut oil, honey, and avocado, and to help with dehydration, blend half an avocado with honey and uncooked oatmeal.

Use Baking Soda for Your Teeth

Baking soda can be used for many reasons, including whitening your teeth. For achieve white teeth without having to go to your oral hygienist, mix a teaspoon of baking soda with tap water and mix thoroughly to form a thick paste. Place paste on your toothbrush and spread it evenly on your teeth. Brush for about 3 to 4 minutes using a soft bristle brush and rinse with water when done. You can brush your teeth this way everyday as it is safe to do so. Expect result in three to four weeks.

Beauty tips should not just be limited to those with money. Anybody should be able to look their best regardless of what income class they belong in. By following our beauty tips, you too can look your best without spending a dime by using everyday household items you already have in your house. Always set aside a few hours a week for self-care, whether it is taking a nice hot bubble bath, curling up with your favorite book or hitting the gym because beauty begins on the inside and can be visible on the outside allowing you to be your most beautiful.
